The monument to the national hero of Bashkortostan Salavat Yulaev is depicted on the republican coat of arms and is considered the main symbol of Bashkiria. The monument on the high bank of the Belaya River in the center of Ufa is the largest equestrian statue in Europe. Salavat Yulaev — poet, associate of Emelyan Pugachev in the Peasants' War. By decree of Catherine II, the Pugachev rebellion and its participants were betrayed to "eternal oblivion and deep silence." However, the Bashkirs still honor Salavat Yulaev today. The monument in the republican capital was erected in November 1967.
