1st State Test Cosmodrome of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The Plesetsk Cosmodrome is in the taiga on the territory of the city of Mirny, which is located in the Arkhangelsk region — this is about 800 kilometers north of Moscow. The location was not chosen by chance: in the early 1960s, Soviet engineers realized that Baikonur and the Kapustin Yar test site did not allow launching satellites into all important orbits. Thanks to this, Plesetsk became the northernmost launch site in the world.
