The Orenburg downy shawl is an elegant, refined, and delicate work of art that has no analogues in the whole world. Down-knitting craft originated in the Orenburg region about 300 years ago, back in the 18th century. According to other sources, the knitting of downy shawls from goat down by the indigenous population of these places existed even before the formation of the Orenburg province.
